TORRINGTON – The Torrington All-Stars wrapped up District 2 Tournament action in Torrington last week, with the 11-12-year-olds finishing third and the 9-10-year-olds snagging fourth.
The 11-12-year-olds took on Laramie on Thursday in a game to decide who earned a spot in the championship game against Gillette, who’d already punched their ticket for the title match. Torrington came out on the losing end against Laramie, 12-0.
Laramie’s Jaeden Brown kept the bats quiet for Torrington, pitching all five innings while not allowing a hit or walk. Kealy Carson was the only All-Star to reach first base, doing so on a dropped third strike.
Laramie scored one run in the first inning, but was shutout in the second, with two of those outs coming via strikeout by Bryce Hager. Laramie added two runs in the third and then blew the game open, scoring four in the fourth and five in the fifth to cruise to the win.
In the younger action, Torrington was the third seed heading into bracket play, where they took on Gillette National for the second day in a row. The 9-10-year-old All-Stars fell 12-4.

Gillette struck first, tallying up two runs in the first inning. The visitors then grew their lead by scoring five runs in the second inning to hold a 7-0 advantage after two. Griffin Wolfe got the scoring going for Torrington, coming around to add a run in the third inning, with Gillette rebounding for a run of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Torrington was kept off the scoreboard in the fourth inning, with the Nationals adding another run to their total.
Torrington was not going down without a fight, with three runners scoring in the fifth. Ryan Moorehouse hit a double to bring home Mateo Correa. Moorehouse and Mac Hibben both scored in the frame to trim the deficit to 9-4. Gillette added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and Torrington was shut out in the sixth to end the game at 12-4.
The loss against Gillette National sent Torrington to the third-place game, where it faced Laramie for the second time of the week.
After three innings of scoreless action, Laramie struck first with one run in the fourth. The visitors added another run in the fifth, while keeping Torrington’s bats quite. The All-Stars were unable to bring a runner around to score, falling 2-0.
Correa pitched a complete game for Torrington, allowing two runs on four hits. Torrington had eight base runners in the contest, but failed to bring them around to score.
In the 9-10-year-old division, Torrington went 1-4 throughout the week. They beat Gillette American on Tuesday, 20-19, while falling to Gillette National and Laramie twice. Gillette National took first in the division, with Gillette American coming in second. Laramie took third. Both Gillette teams punched their ticket for the state tournament in Laramie this weekend.
Gillette won the 11-12-year-old division, beating Laramie 20-7 in the championship game. Torrington took third, with Newcastle and Rawlins taking fourth and fifth, respectively. Laramie and Gillette will represent District 2 in the state tournament this weekend in Laramie.
