MIDLAND, Texas – Alice Jean Copper, a longtime resident of Midland, Texas passed away Jan. 23, 2021 at the age of 89. She was born on Dec. 25, 1931 to Leroy Edwards and Leona (Morris) Edwards in Minatare, Neb.

The Edwards moved to Torrington, where Alice Jean attended school. She was involved in many school activities including the honor of being a cheerleader and Homecoming princess. She graduated from Torrington High School in 1951.

While in high school, Alice Jean met the love of her life, Keith A. Copper. Keith and Alice married on April 3, 1955 in Torrington. They celebrated 65 years of marriage before Keith’s passing in November 2020.

The Coppers moved around with Keith’s job with Conoco Oil Company. They eventually ended up in Midland, Texas where they lived for over fifty years. They joined St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Midland where Alice taught Sunday school and became active in the Church’s senior group.

Alice Jean worked for the Midland Independent School District. She retired after 27 years of service as a cafeteria manager and cook. She loved and missed her job but missed the children she served more.

Cooking was always a big part of her life. Alice was known for her fudge, divinity candy, and cakes. Her real talent was homemade cinnamon rolls. There was always more than enough to eat when dining at the Coppers.

Every week, Alice could be found smiling and joking with her friends at the Beauty Castle. She had her hair done every week while catching up on all the latest news. The ladies at the Beauty Castle said Alice would light up the place with her smile and laughter.
