Gleb brings years of educational experience to pastor position

TORRINGTON – “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
That’s how Michael Gleb, the new pastor at Torrignton Baptist Tabernacle, described is preaching style to the Telegram on Wednesday.
Gleb, who comes from Fairfax, Va., worked as a history teacher and varsity basketball coach at various Christian schools during the last decade-plus until, a few years ago, he felt compelled to pursue preaching.
“The Lord was leading me to pastor,” he said. “In 2014, I felt that leading … I stayed in education. I knew (former Torrington Baptist Tabernacle pastor) Chuck Hyatt. He called me and said he was going back east, and he knew I had a desire to move back west.”
“Back west” refers to Gleb’s 10-year stint in Casper and Cheyenne. He moved to Wyoming in 1993 when he was 15 and left in 2003. His father still resides in Cheyenne.
“I love Wyoming and the west,” Gleb said. He was reunited with the Cowboy State last November when he took the reins at Torrington Baptist Tabernacle, however he has yet to find a home in Torrington and continues to commute from Cheyenne on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
“It’s been good,” Gleb said. “I’ve been working to establish relationships.”
Saturday, Gleb and members of his congregation handed out glossy cards inviting others to attend services at Torrington Baptist Tabernacle.
“The church is open to the community,” Gleb said. “Our purpose is to strengthen families and individuals … exalt Christ – that’s the most important thing we do, edify saints … and reach out to the
community.
“We would love to have visitors,” he said. “Anybody is welcome.”
For those who choose to attend services at Torrington Baptist Tabernacle, Gleb said they can expect a combination of relatability and proclamations from the pulpit.
“The culture nowadays – there are truths that are harder, that you have to proclaim,” he said. “But you have to do it with sensitivity.”
Gleb believes his 12 years of teaching experience serves him well in his current position.
“The Bible tells us a pastor should be apt to teach, not just preaching hard, but teaching people God’s word,” Gleb said. “Teaching encourages and edifies. I spent 12 years trying to be really clear with students – being clear is important to me. It’s part of the job description – you are an overseer and an administrator, you go out and make visits, but you also need to, in a sense, preach.”
Torrington Baptist Tabernacle is located at 7228 McKenna Road. Services are Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and Sunday evening at 5 p.m. Bible study is held every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

“At Torrington Baptist Tabernacle, we believe God, we believe his Word, and we believe He has a purpose for each of us,” Gleb said in the church’s invitation to the public. “Connect with us as we discover God’s purpose.”
