2018 high school football schedules released

TORRINGTON – Although the state championships were just last week, the WHSAA set up a majority of next year’s football schedule for high schools across the state.

Torrington and Southeast both have all eight of their games schedule for next season, while Lingle-Fort Laramie has all but one game scheduled so far.

The Blazers have the biggest change to their schedule next season compared to this past season because their conference opponents have changed. Buffalo, a 3A East team in 2017, moved down to 2A for next year. Worland, who was in the 3A West this past season, is switching to the 3A East for 2018 to balance the conferences, so both sides of the state have six teams.

Looking at Torrington’s non-conference schedule, they hit the road for Glenrock, before hosting Gering, Neb. and Green River. Against conference opponents, Torrington hosts Douglas (Week 5) and Riverton (Week 6), while having road games against Lander (Week 3), Worland (Week 7) and Rawlins (Week 8).

The combined record from 2017 of Torrington’s eight scheduled opponents for next year is 37-36.

With only two non-conference games, the Cyclones’ schedule is similar to last seasons. Southeast kicks off its season on the road against Mitchell, Neb. It’ll be the first time the two programs have met. Southeast’s final non-conference game comes at home against Saratoga.

The Cyclones have a tough conference-opener, taking on two-time defending champion Pine Bluffs in Week 3 in Yoder. In Week 4, the Cyclones make the short trip to Lusk, before returning home against Tongue River in Week 5. Upton-Sundance is the destination for Southeast in Week 6. The Cyclones’ final home game of the regular season is against Wright, before ending their season on the road against state runner-up Big Horn.

Southeast’s 2018 opponents had a combined record of 41-33 in 2017.

There are eight teams in the 1A six-man East, so seven of the Doggers’ opponents for next season have been locked in. L-FL has an open week in Week 1, where it can still find an opponent to schedule before opening its conference schedule.

Each of the Doggers’ conference foes remain the same for next year, but the locations are flipped. In Week 2, L-FL hosts Normative Services Institute, before heading to Rock River, who didn’t have a 2017 season due to lack of numbers. In Week 4, the Doggers host Hanna-Elk Mountain, followed by two road games, taking on Midwest and then the three-time defending champions in Kaycee. The Doggers round out their regular season schedule with two home games, playing Guernsey-Sunrise and Hulett in Weeks 7 and 8.

The seven opponents already schedule for the Doggers next year had a combined record of 32-30 this past season, including a perfect 11-0 season by Kaycee, who is riding a 30-game winning streak.

Exact dates and times for games across the state have not been announed yet.
