NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – The Eastern Wyoming College Lady Lancers suffered a 77-63 loss against McCook Community College Jan. 6, but rebounded to beat North Platte Community College, 69-54, Jan. 7.
Against McCook, EWC gave up 26 points in the first quarter and could not make up the difference throughout the game. The Lady Lancers went into halftime down 39-32. After intermission, EWC was outscored in both the third and fourth quarters, as McCook went on to take the win.
“We were pretty disappointed with our effort against McCook. We were just a step slow, it seemed like,” coach Tom Anderson said. “The first three to four minutes really set the tone of the game.”
Anna Perez Gomez led the Lady Lancers in scoring Friday with 21 points, hitting on 8-of-15 from the field. She accounted for six boards, a team-high four assists and two steals.
Sarah Bersang came off the bench to score 12 points for EWC as the only other Lady Lancer in double-digits. Bersang had three rebounds, three assist and two steals on the night.
Emily Evans and Pamela Bethel each accounted for nine points. They also combined for nine rebounds and three assists.
EWC struggled shooting the three-ball on Friday, hitting only 4-of-21 from deep. The Lady Lancers shot 30.6 percent from the field and 65.2 percent from the free-throw line.
EWC 69, NPCC 54
On Saturday against North Platte, the Lady Lancers were again outscored in the first half, 36-31. After the break, EWC put up 18 points to North Platte’s nine to take a 49-45 lead into the final frame.
