Tracksters shine at Track and Field Classic

CASPER – Goshen County track athletes proved they possess the talent and tenacity to compete with the best runners, jumpers and throwers representing all classifications in Wyoming at the annual Track and Field Classic in Casper on April 26.

Each high school in the county – Lingle-Fort Laramie, Southeast and Torrington – qualified several athletes to join the roster at the state’s most prestigious event before the postseason.

Torrington sophomore Brooklyn Asmus snagged gold in the girls’ 100-meter dash, timing in at 12.40 seconds. Asmus crossed the finish line with 0.21 seconds to spare over the runner-up, Wheatland’s Desirae Iacovetto.

Torrington junior Jaycee Hurley finished eighth in the 100-meters at 13.44 seconds.

Asmus went on to secure second place in the 200-meters, posting a time of 25.02 seconds.

In throwing events, Torrington senior Tyler Bennick captured silver in the boys’ shot put, clearing 55 feet, 7 ¾ inches. Bennick clinched sixth place in the discus at 140-01.

Senior Harper Boche represented Southeast at the Track and Field Classic, securing fifth place in the girls’ shot put at 37-09 ¼.

Torrington senior Trey Parriott came in ninth place in the boys’ shot put, clearing 48-06 ¾.

Jumpers posted strong performances in Casper. Torrington sophomore Natalie Hawes bagged third place in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles, timing in at 47.03 seconds.

Trishell Pontarolo, also a sophomore at Torrington, garnered fourth place in the girls’ triple jump with a leap of 35-02.

Hitting a mark of 16-06 ½ in the girls’ long jump, Torrington senior Alyssa Wondercheck placed eighth.

Lingle-Fort Laramie tracksters made a statement in middle- and long-distance events. Junior Brody Roberts pulled into fifth place in the 800-meters, clocking in at 1 minute, 58.53 seconds. Sophomore Sullivan Wilson snagged seventh place in the 1600-meters, crossing the finish line in 4:39.79.
