Southeast girls second, boys sixth at NCHS meet

 LUSK – Braving the elements on a cold, windy spring day, the Southeast High School track team bagged hardware and new personal records at the Dennis Zowada Invitational hosted by Niobrara County High School on April 27.

The Lady Cyclones garnered second place as a team, tallying 114 points. The Cyclones took sixth place overall with 52 points.

Senior Harper Boche snagged gold in the girls’ shot put. Despite competing at the Wyoming Track and Field Classic less than 24 hours before boarding the bus for Niobrara County, Boche hit a new personal record in the shot put at Lusk of 40 feet, 3 ½ inches.

Clocking the girls’ 400-meters in at 1 minute, 5.70 seconds, senior Sasha Haines captured first place. Haines crossed the finish line nearly 2.5 seconds ahead of Gordon-Rushville’s Kylie Goings.

Haines, sophomore Molly Hasbargen, freshman Bailey Mehling and senior Tylar Stoddard won the girls’ 4x100-meter relay, posting a time of 53.44 seconds, beating Burns by a 0.87-second margin.

The boys’ 4x400-meter relay team clinched first place. Sophomore T.J. Moats, senior Wyatt Gladson, junior Kannon Tippetts and junior William Knowlton scooped up gold with a time of 3 minutes, 53.37 seconds, finishing with seven seconds to spare over the competition.

Girls top eight

The Lady Cyclones performed particularly well in throwing events. Southeast captured five of the top eight spots in the discus.

Senior Kodi Andersen led the pack with a second-place finish and a mark of 109-04. Boche took third place at 108-09, with freshman Haylee Ekwall in fifth at 102-02, sophomore Hadley Leithead in seventh at 99-08 and senior Madison Boyden in eighth at 97-02.

In the shot put, Ekwall clinched second place with a toss of 38-06. Boyden finished sixth in the event, clearing 30-11.

In the 100-meter hurdles, junior Taylar Hansen pulled into second place, timing in at 18.32 seconds. Sophomore Kaylee Gibson placed eighth in the event at 27.24 seconds.

Hansen went on to bag third place in the 300-hurdles, posting a time of 56.25 seconds, while Gibson took fifth place at 1:15.56.

Clocking the 100-meters in at 13.85 seconds, Haines secured second place. Mehling picked up fourth place in the event at 13.98 seconds.

Freshman Brylie Booth finished fourth in the 400-meters, crossing the finish line in 1:11.31.

In the pole vault, junior Angie Logsdon garnered third place with a mark of 8-00.

Junior Anna Hartman came in sixth place in the 800-meters, timing in at 3:04.90.

The 4x800-meter relay team – Hartman, senior Kylee Llewellyn, Stoddard and Logsdon – scooped up third place at 11:59.16.

Boys top eight

Kannon Tippetts led the Southeast pack in the 400-meters, clinching second place with a time of 53.25 seconds. Gladson took sixth place in the event at 55.94 seconds.

Moats earned seventh place in the 200-meters, posting a time of 25.49 seconds, with Gladson in eighth place at 25.50 seconds.

In throwing events, junior Emmett Coxbill bagged fourth place, hitting a mark of 38-09. Moats placed fifth in the event at 35-05.

Junior Drew Boche snagged seventh place in the discus with a toss of 90-04.

Freshman Trevor Jolovich snapped up sixth place in the triple jump at 36-00 ¾. Junior Liam Haas finished eighth in the long jump, clearing 16-07 ¾.

Relay highlights included a second-place finish by senior Lance York, Jolovich, Knowlton and freshman Connor Coxbill in the 1600-meter sprint-medley relay at 4:13.98.

The 4x100-meter relay team – Jolovich, Haas, Gladson and York – took fourth place at 50.48 seconds.

• 100-meters: Hasbargen in 20th place at 15.68 seconds.

• 800-meters: Llewellyn in ninth place at 3:06.57.

• 200-meters: Hasbargen in ninth place at 31.04 seconds and Hansen in 12th at 31.28.

• Shot put: Brooklyn Leithead in 10th place at 26-01 ½.

• Discus: Brooklyn Leithead in 11th place at 85-04.

• 400-meters: Connor Coxbill in 10th place at 1:01.12 and Jolovich in 11th at 1:02.10.

• 800-meters: Joaquin Ramirez in 12th place at 2:48.53 and Robin Wick in 13th at 2:57.99.

• 200-meters: York in 20th place at 27.89 seconds.

• Shot put: Drew Boche in 11th place at 31-04, Alec DeMarce in 12th at 31-02 ½, Sebastian Brumley in 13th at 30-00 and Talon Tippetts in 16th at 28-08.

• Discus: Moats in ninth place at 89-11, Emmett Coxbill in 12th at 84-11, Talon Tippetts in 18th at 71-05, Brumley in 19th at 69-09 and DeMarce in 22nd at 65-00.
